All 8 Modules Reflection and Evaluation (Part 2):

Module 5:

During the course of this module (Digital Skills Acquisition) I found the 2D sections of the module really fun and I feel that I had put the most effort into this side of the module more than the 3D section of the module, although I found it hard during the design process of the 3D module however with the rig and creating the controls I found it very exciting and interesting to create them and also within my practice module I was able to create the rig rather easily. Furthermore I feel that I should have documented more on the process of 3D and 2D design however I only limited myself to 3D design. I feel that if I were to do this module again I would focus on the design of the 3D character as I found this the most difficult furthermore I would also add into the work with development surrounded about the 2D and 3D combined instead of just focusing on the 3D alone. My animation used for the character rig can be seen on the animation post.
Module 6:
This module (Contextual Studies) was highly interesting for me as I found and researched a range of artists which I believe have opened up my interests into various different animation and illustration techniques from this module I found that I really like the concept of using rotoscoping for illustration and animation and I would really like to practice this into the second year and even on personal work too. In my opinion I believe that written communication is my strong point and also essay writing and I feel that I have improved with my research skills also as I researched various people and various animation techniques, overall I believe I would like another contextual module in the second year as I believe it expands my knowledge on animations and illustrations and I believe that this knowledge is valuable in developing myself as an artist.
Module 7:
As This Module is essentially the creation of the blog and the posting onto the blog I actually do not see this module as a module, however that is a good thing as this blog is a way to focus on a particular students personal and professional development, of as this module is not finished yet I really cannot reflect on my progress or my grade as I am treading water on the last 2 modules as I only know my progress and not the particular marks of the work. however I believe that through the duration of the blog I can improve and that I can post more information onto the blog, another thing I believe I can do is that I can link other parts of my personal work into the blog such as my Instagram with all of my personal work on there to show and develop my portfolio and to expand on my work. however as I cannot not asses this module after I have handed in
Module 8:
As this module is the last module of the year and I find that within this module I feel that I am really within my element of course that I feel under pressure but that is due to time really I have produced most of my written work it is now a case of writing up development and producing the last 2 illustrations as I have finished my first illustration, I believe my progress within this module is steadily growing faster as I work within my spare time, of course as I have not handed in the project on the deadline yet that does not mean I can asses this module thoroughly through reference of marks. However I feel that I am close to finishing this module and I feel confident that I will have enough time to finish the work and also have enough time to review the module and improve on my work before hand in.

Texturing 3D models- UV Mapping

During Todays CAAD Session we learnt how to texture a 3D object within cinema 4. We started the exercise by creating a sphere and making the 3D model's mesh simpler and then making the object editable. We add a UV mapping tag onto the 3D model to make it editable. We then changed the view mode of cinema 4D to UV Mapping edit and this shows mesh of the 3D model flattened out on the side of the 3D model here is the process of creating the mesh. The main tool that we used was the line tool and selected various lines to create a lotus mesh to surround the sphere.

Here is the mesh outline through the outline of pink to give it a more natural look.

We transfer the mesh over into photoshop and we paint over the mesh and the outlines help keep the design nice and neat on the 3D model in cinema 4D.

Here is the design on the mesh obviously it is messy however on the 3D model it is very neat and appears to look like a beach ball.

Now that we started to work on a simply version of creating an organised mesh then we decided to do a more complicated approach and use a 3D body model to do it, we used to line tool and selected certain lines on how certain body parts would unfold flat if they were being turned into a flat mesh.

Here is the result of outlining the 3D model and creating separate pieces of mesh for various different body parts, if we wish to design it then we3 would do the same process and drag it into a design software and colour it up.

Second Last week Update:

During the second last week of the term we are all rushing to get our work done. Those who are going to Berlin are working harder and feaster than those who aren't however even though I am not going to berlin. What I have mainly got through are all of the tasks that I have assigned myself all research is done, my proposal and treatment are finished and I have also finished my first illustration and I am beginning to work and sketch out my illustrations onto paper and then I am going to scan them in.

I have my reference material for the second illustration and it is in the perfect position for it and also I will be able to use the concept of using a silver outline for each individual piece of glass. Overall my main targets for this week are:

  1. Complete traditional illustrations and scan in and add detail using photoshop. follow time table so deadline for this will be wednesday
  2. Start to print out research proposal and all written documentation for this course and organise them all into a file ready for hand in.
  3. Update the blog as much as I can and write about my personal work along with my coursework.

All Animations Produced during the course of the year:

Here are all of the animations that I have created so far within my course.

Module 8 current research:

I would like to post my current research onto my blog as its on my target to do list and I know that if I don't do it straight away then I will forget completely and then will hit myself  constantly after hand in so here is my current research:

Jaw Cooper

Jaw Cooper is known for her picturesque creepy style, Jaw Cooper makes a living as a freelance illustrator she was born in the UK and lived in various places in Europe. Jaw Coopers style is very semi realistic while at the same time has a sense of a surreal aspect to her illustrations, she mainly illustrates a variety of animals and female figures, Jaw cooper is very talented for highlighting and defining the features of women and various animals.

Within this piece Cooper has made she centres the female character within this piece and also the various use of animation limbs to compliment the female features and physique.

This piece is very similar to the previous illustration the combination of the feminine figure and the mountain goat both complement each other giving a deeper concept to the illustration the subtle use of colours makes the illustration stand out more as the faint use of red can be detected much more easily either giving of the concept of lust, anger, age, love etc.

The combination of animals and feminine figures within illustration is mainly Jaw Coopers Forte, within this piece Jaw signifies the fact that the woman and the tiger are connected, or so the tiger is the women’s spirit animals. The main concept that I believe that Jaw Cooper is trying to interpret is the fact that we all have a subtle connection to nature and no matter what we will always go back to our animalistic routes eventually and the fact that it will happen has a certain elegance and beauty to it through the use of Cooper’s illustrations.
Creep Machine (Magazine)
Creep Machine are a famous American illustration magazine, they show various illustrations from various artists and the various creepy styles of work that they produce, I will show 2 various artists that have been shown within this magazine.
Allison Sommers:
Allison Sommers is a Brooklyn Based artist she mainly promotes her work through the internet and magazines creep machine features some of her work from time to time.

Allison’s style is very dark and this is obvious through the use of colour scheme within the illustration, she uses a large amount of grey and pain colours and emphasises other colours on this pallet through contrast so the red will be significantly noticeable within the illustration so her main concern is to emphasise a dark tone and nature within her artwork.

Tyler Lamph:
Tyler Lamph is one of the artists that is featured in Creep Machine Magazine, Tyler Lamph’s work is also very dark, I believe that Tyler Lamph’s main concept for his work revolves around his perception of humanity as he mainly illustrates figures, for example this illustration shows the balance of man’s inner nature their human nature, the balance between the right and wrong, basically this illustration is emphasising that within every human there is a constant battle of conscious.

Hell ‘o’ Monsters
Hello Monster are a group of illustrators and the majority of their work is cartoonish based and contain rather dark themes the group of illustrators emerged in the late 1990s, and have grown quite popular ever since. All members of hello monsters were originally graffiti artists and it is said that when the group met each other they quickly abandoned their trade and moved on to try various different illustrative techniques such as inking which a popular choice was for hello monsters.

CADD SESSION: WALK CYCLE TO RUN CYCLE...

During this mornings CADD session we went over the use of frames and movement to transfer a walk cycle into a run cycle.

This is the timeline for the walk cycle with all of the frames as you can see the frames are spaced evenly and the animations walk cycle walks smoothly.

Firstly what I did was delete all of the current frames for the walk cycle and then I began to shift and change the position of the 3D model and then began to add and take away key frames mainly the main problem was getting the timing correct along with the correct corresponding positions of the 3D model. Here are a few screen shots of my attempts at creating the animate walk cycle.

After I created the animation and attempted to add some character to the animation this is what the timeline looked like after the production of the movements were finished overall it is very different to the first timeline.

Module 8: Illustrative module

As we have all came back for our 3 weeks left at college we are all bashing away at our keyboards and wearing out our artist tools and striving for a good grade for both of our last 2 modules. I have decided to give myself small targets for this weeks progression within these modules:

  1. Blog about all of the animations that I have done so far uploading them to blogger and also blog about anything art related that inspires me whether it is simple stories or illustrators that have inspired me to try new things.
  2. Finish off my proposal and treatment as I am so close to finishing my proposal and treatment I only have a tiny bit left to do however it is getting it done so I am going to force myself to get it finished and out of the way so that I can focus on producing my illustrations.
  3. finally I will upload my research for this module onto the blog which will also go into the section of various artists work being posted onto my blog as I describe and analyse the illustrators work and the origin of the specified illustrator.
These are my major targets for this week and also I am EXTREMELY happy about my results for the contextual studies module as I did decently in it and even though I feel I could of worked harder within the module and include more research, as there is another contextual studies module in the second year I plan to prepare more and work harder on this module in the second year.

My overall progress is going well except though that I feel I need to upload on this blog more frequently and I will be able to do that as soon as possible in the mean time here is pusheen riding a fat pony.

RANDOM THOUGHTS AND SHENANIGANS!

As I sit at my desk at half 11 at night I sit and wonder to myself what it means to be an artist, an illustrator or an animator, (stop me when this gets too deep). If I am honest I wouldn't consider myself an artist I just think of myself as I person who likes to create things, stories, people, drawings etc. I honestly think that is what all artists are just people putting themselves out there, basically a persons art is a reflection of themselves of their style their experiences and their inspirations. Artists put their work out there and it can affect people in different ways, some find it inspiring and they then create something new from this inspiration, some disregard it and think nothing more of it, basically its like life how we strive to impress people and be ourselves in front of others, art is basically the same a mixture of concepts, formats and production styles, all art is different and its basically like people all unique in its own way.

I guess as a person my main inspirations would be anime and manga and I know within the world of art that is A BIG NO-NO! however if it wasn't for these childhood TV shows and the comics and anime that I watch I don't think I would be as passionate about  creating illustrations and stories as I am today, things like Naruto, Invader Zim, Card Captor Sakura, power puff girls BLABLABLA I could sit and list all of them however this would not be as an interesting blog post if I did so instead here are some images of those things and you give me you impression:

through various experimentation and trying different styles I feel a lot more happier with my art than I used to and I feel like I can better myself with my work and although its not as respected in the art industry I really have to appreciate my roots of inspiration because if it wasn't for this anime/manga and cartoons I wouldn't be the same person today let alone an "Artist" (bleh).

Also furthermore I have been working on some photo bashing lately and I did mock up of my boyfriend and among other sketches:

I feel like I am improving although in my opinion I am shit at art, and most people know it too I am kind of glad that I can create these things and improve constantly and to have met people who influence me and encourage me, and to be honest I don't want to impress people or have them like my work I want to do this because I want to no other reason :)

PEACE FOR A WHILE CROCODILE!

Review of photo bashing (Illustration module)

During the past week I have been focusing on working on my photo bashing, as I thought, I had lost my tablet and ordered a new one. To the least of my knowledge I had placed my tablet in my lower draw of my desk (CRINGE!) so since I have found my tablet I am going crazy on my photo bashing and trying to set a good atmosphere for my 3 illustration all I need to do now is to add in figures to create more of an atmosphere.

Furthermore I will be working on finishing my proposal and treatment and once that is done I can finally put all of my attention into working on my illustrations.
